Math explains what we see. Doesn't religion, instead, make claims about things we don't see? Why should we believe them?

Math is a model of the world. A is A because that's the way reality manifests. What does that have to do with God?

Well, 'reason' doesn't prove anything. It's a mode of thinking which reflects the way the universe appears to function.
